So is this yet another alien invasion story where america fights back? Yet another story where the American President stand in front of war torn White House delivering a speech of hope, love and in some cases declaring American Independence day as global Independence day? (The last one sucked big time) The answer is a yes and a no. Its a alien invasion story and it makes it clear from its name, its first frame but its a squadron of US Marines who lead the fight back under the aegis Staff Sgt. Michael Nantz played by Aaron Eckhart. Made in documentary style, the story is simple, straight forward, no non-sense but kick ass nonetheless. Expect for those few family drama scenes, which for some reason should have been avoided, the movie maintains a fast, linear trajectory.
It was unexpected from this movie but yes it is gripping. It is not a Cloverfield but a similar attempt.
