    The male and key protagonist of the film is a writer called Dashrath Joglekar (Nana Patekar), He is married (wife - Deepti Naval) and has two children (Romit Raaj And Anandi).

    Although their's is a happy family, Dashrath's son, is shown to not like his father's work and is instead more prone to appreciating contemporary music.

    Soon, Dashrath undertakes a journey to Delhi by train, in order to receive the 'Elegant Sahitya Samman' award for his novel 'Janaza'. In the train his co - passenger (Nakul Vaid) happens to be a filmmaker who likes his work. He thinks that a novel like 'Janaza' could be made into a good film. The novel's principal character is a courtesan called Lajvanti.

    Post the train journey, Dashrath muses on the idea of converting his novel into film, and after receiving the award, he goes in search for the heroine of his story. He thus embarks on his 'yatra'.

    His own life, soon, gets enmeshed with those of the characters in his novel. When he doesn't return home for a long time, his wife sets out to look for him. She finds him at the home of, obsessed with a dancer called Lajwanti (Rekha), a real life courtesan.

    Will his wife be able to break the spell and get him back?
