It has been aptly said that history repeats itself. In 1988, a beautiful film was released, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which has since been credited with bringing melody back to Bollywood. The film had many beautiful aspects to talk about. It had beautiful melodious music, meaningful lyrics, great direction and new faces as actors. The film was a huge success thus making famous many names related to it.
And now we have ‘Yeh Khula Aasmaan’. Again, this film too has many plus points, the greatest being the many awards it has already won at various film festivals. It has a talented new director in Gitanjali Sinha. The film also boasts of the comeback of beautiful lyrics by Ravi Chopra.
One common link between Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak of 1988, which has been credited with the comeback of melody in Bollywood, and ‘Yeh Khula Aasmaan,’ which can very well be considered as the film bringing back the melody once again, is the musician duo ANAND-MILIND.
‘Har Ghadi’ is indeed one of the best songs ever sung by Kunal Ganjawala. Beautiful lyrics and melody flowing is what the song is all about. Piano and the violin used beautifully, which bring the emotions alive while listening to the song and one can easily relate to the situation.
‘Tul Mile’ is a smooth romantic song sung beautifully by Gayatri Ganjawala and Soham. Whenever I listen to this song, it takes me back to the days of ‘Akele hain to kya gam hai’ of ‘QSQT’ and ‘pehla nasha’ of ‘Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar.’ Very rarely do we get to listen songs of this calibre. Again, light music but the effect it makes on the listener’s mind will remain forever. Undoubtedly this is one of the best romantic songs ever in Bollywood.
‘Aari aari’ is a nice lullaby sung by the veteran Suresh Wadkar. Suresh, S P Balasubramaniam, Amit Kumar, Sadhna Sargam have always been regular singers with Anand Milind. Hope they all get the good songs back again with this musical duo. I especially like the line of the mukhda ‘jugnu sitare soye hai saare.’ The tune takes a nice turn from thereon and Suresh sings the line beautifully. The musical instruments used in between the antras of this song remind one of the yesteryear music.
‘Ur Fur Kar’ is a beautiful folk kind of song which has some quality lyrics comparing life to a flying kite. Raghuvir Yadav does a nice job in singing too apart from is terrific acting.
I have noticed that in Bollywood when talented musicians are down in the market, they need just one chance to prove themselves and for that, they need that one person who can repose his or her faith and give them a chance. This happened to the great R D Burman when he was not making news in the market. Vidhu Vinod Chopra believed in his talent and ‘1942: A Love Story’ happened and the rest is history. The film’s music is today regarded as one of R D Burman’s best music album. Unfortunately R D Burman did not stay with us to witness the success.
I think we all Anand Milind fans should thank Gitanjali Sinha for reposing her faith in the musician duo. THANK YOU GITANJALI AND CHEERS TO ANAND MILIND. With ‘Yeh Khula Aasmaan’ releasing by the end of May, let’s all hope Anand Milind get totally drenched with a Monsoon of Film offers.
