Zindagi Khoobsurat Hai is a film that has multiple issues in it. The first one is about the marginalized professions entering into mainstream society. Shalu (Tabu) is a bar dancer who has a dream of marriage and children. This life would not require her to give in to the desires of other men. She meets Amar (Gurdaas Maan) who has come to Bollywood with dreams of a career there. The two initially share a platonic friendship till they realize that they have fallen for each other. However their plans of materializing their love are fraught with hindrances. Here the second issue of the film is brought forward. Jamila (Baby Chandni Pandit) is a handicapped child who can be pacified by only Amar’s voice when he appears on the television. Jamila’s father, Gul Baloch (Ashish Vidyarthi) is an underworld don who decides to abduct Amar to make his daughter happy. This is the third issue that emerges in the film – the power wielded by the underworld. Jamila’s father then makes Amar the custodian of his child in the case of the former’s demise. Amar then planned to start a family with Shalu and Jamila. As luck would have it Gul, passed away on the day of Amar’s film’s release. Amar is now thrown into a dilemna of choosing between career and family. The choice is tough, but he chooses wisely.
