  • Zindagi Na Milagi Dobara: Dosti, Yaari aur Spain

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara rating: 6 out of 10(Shiraj Dakshy wrote on 16 Jul 2011)

ZNMD is a true Road movie with 3 principle characters Arjun(Hritik), Imran (Farhan) & Kabir (Abhay). The story is of 3 friends who go for a road trip to Spain just before Kabir (Abhay Deol) gets married to Natasha (Kalki) and how they battle their Fears and past and come out triumphant to get a sense of freedom from their emotional baggage. The story is wafer thin but the screenplay holds the attention of the audience with its moments. The camaraderie of the 3 friends is brilliantly captured. Performances are A-grade. Hrithik as Arjun does complete justice to the most complex characters amongst the 3,his transformation from cocky headed arrogant Investment Banker to a free spirited guy is very well potrayed. Farhan Akhtar as Imran is the most lovable character of the 3 and has the maximum punch lines, but the brief sequence between Imran (Farhan) and his dad played by Nasseruddin Shah is a cinematic moment captured brilliantly by Zoya Akhtar. Abhay Deol as Kabir is lovable, in this all guys movie the girls have very less to do but full credit to Katrina who plays the role of Laila with ease, I think this is Katrina’s most realistic portrayal till date, Kalki Koechlin as Natasha does complete justice as a possessive fiancé of Kabir.

The cinematography is brilliant and captures Spain beautifully. The Screenplay by Zoya Akhtar & Reema Kagti is good but it could have been shorter in length. The music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is the weakest in the movie; excluding the Senorita song rest all the songs are forgettable. Overall a good movie but could have been better if the length was less and the music could have been better. 3 stars from me.
